Philipp Petermeier receives prestigious Erwin Wenzl Prize 2024

Our esteemed former ESR 13 Philipp Petermeier was awarded the Erwin Wenzel Prize 2024 on Friday 14.02.2025. He was awarded the main prize for his outstanding PhD thesis completed as an INTERfaces MSCA fellow at the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering, Aarhus University with a secondment at SpinChem!

Philipp’s PhD thesis, “Process Engineering of Cascade Strategies for the Synthesis of Indigo Dye and Hydroxystyrene Monomers,” demonstrated the development of efficient multistep biocatalytic approaches in non-conventional media with product titers relevant to technical scales. Or in other words he worked on enzyme cascade reaction engineering and biocatalysis, developing a green chemoenzymatic cascade for the scalable synthesis of bio-based styrene alternatives. The future of bioplastics!
